Firik Dede came from the famous Derviş Cemal Ocak and was a Pir. He guided the community during their festivals, weddings, and funerals, and he led the Cem ceremonies. He passed down the knowledge, songs, and poems of his religion to the next generation only orally, by word of mouth. He was regarded as a Kâmil İnsan, a 'mature or perfect human being' (the highest stage of spiritual development).
He became a witness to the Dersim Genocide. When his son Behzat was brutally killed by the military in 1981, his role changed. He no longer gave speeches. As a sign of deep mourning, he never cut his hair or beard again. His life was marked by oppression, violence, and poverty. Despite everything, he remained a spiritual leader. His silence became his most important teaching. | Pir Fırik (Seyfi Firik, 1901 - 2007) [e.] [tar.]
