As a result, many Greeks, Bulgarians, Albanians, Bosniaks, Jews, Arabs, Armenians, Assyrians, Georgians, Serbs, Kurds, DEZDs (Dersimer, Elewites, Zazas, Dimilis) were forced to adopt last names of a more turkish rendition. Unlike the Kurds and DEZD's , other minorities did not have to change their names. But many did so in order not to attract attention as members of an ethnic minority. Kurds and DEZDs, however, had to give up their names in the spirit of assimilation policy. | Qanunê Peyname (21.06.1934) [tar.] |
