| Beschreibung: | Tackling the urban mobility question at Local Renewables Freiburg 2010
Freiburg, 19 July 2010 - As the move towards e-vehicles begins to gather pace, cities around Europe and the world must ask and answer a number of key urban mobility questions. The Local Renewables Freiburg 2010 Conference is the perfect time and place to stop scratching the surface of these issues and truly examine and probe a sector that is constantly in flux.
Taking place in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany) on October 14-15, the conference will gather a wide pool of experts, decision-makers, energy service providers and business representatives to not only discuss the challenges posed by urban mobility, but also the solutions offered by renewable energy. The conference will provide local governments and decision-makers with the knowledge they need to address these key issues and will place a particular emphasis on the role of renewables in sustainable urban mobility. Taking place in solar city Freiburg, participants will discover that urban transport and mobility planning goes far beyond fuels and engines. Reducing mobility demand, preferring non-motorised modes of transport and reinforcing public transport are the vital building blocks of many sustainable urban mobility plans today.
Nevertheless the expectations and hopes for “clean” fuels might impact the further development of such strategies or slow down their implementation. The Local Renewables conference will tackle these issues in workshops and panels, and will raise the following questions: Biofuels or e- mobility or both? What are the perspectives? E-mobility for urban areas and infrastructure changes - what is needed to make it happen? E-mobility and renewable energy for transport – adequate supply and demand? E-mobility and renewable energy for transport – adequate supply and demand? What role can renewables play in public transport and car-sharing? Changing fuels or changing patterns – how to achieve real sustainable urban mobility?
Information and opinions on a range of areas, including local policy and action, framework conditions, infrastructure and technological developments will be explored through a series of panels and workshops. This is the third conference in the Local Renewables Conference series and is expected to attract around 300 participants from local governments in Europe and worldwide.
