Informationen:Ambs had only one weeks training in the Me 262 before flying his first combat mission. All victories in the Me 262. One known victim was a B-17 (see below) which blew up, and the only survivor was the tailgunner, Craig Bennett. The story was featured on the History Channel. The detail is in the 5/2000 Jager Blatt. Another known victory, a P-51 on 14 March, 1945. Three B-17's NW of Dresden on 21 March, 1945. A B-17 in the Cottbus area on 22 March, 1945. Three more B-17's in the Dessau area on 24 March, 1945. On this same date, 24 March, 1945, he was shot down by a P-51 over the Brandenburg/Brest airfield. Wounded in the face and left hand by plexiglass fragments, he managed to bail safely from 6500 meters. He made a rough landing in a nearby forest, injuring his left knee, and unable to stand. The rescuing Germans thought he was a Negro (American) from the sight of all the dried blood on his face. When they opened his jacket they saw he was a German Lt., and was treated better! After the war, he was an architecht in Munich. Magnus. Letter on file.
