Back to Home Ice, but Not Any Easier
Mike Kennedy

For game 3, the series moves back to Munich's Olympia-Eisstadion
Munich, Germany - We played a team game on Sunday and resulted in a close 2-1 win. Derek Plante made a nice long pass to a streaking Derek King. Kinger was forced to shoot at the top of the right faceoff circle and he made no mistake, wristing it low to the blocker side. Both teams had chances to score more goals, but this was more like playoff goaltending. We were able to get an early lead and make it difficult for Augsburg to generate chances. The second period was filled with penalties, with the Barons having to kill for much of the period. The penalty killing units were up to the job and surrendered very few quality chances.

Scored the lead at Augsburg: "Kinger" Derek King

The third period started fast, with Augsburg determined to get the tying goal. After the opening shift, we were able to play solid defense. Shane Peacock's shot from the blueline deflected off the defender's stick and curved into the low blocker corner. It was a relief to have a 2 goal cushion and as it turned out, we needed it. Augsburg kept in a clearing attempt on a questionable offsides call. Peaco lifted the puck high into the air and it looked over the line, but the defender caught the puck and skated into the slot and let a backhand go over Boris' glove. We protected the lead and tied the series at 1-1.

We haven't played as well as we can and we know tomorrow's game is crucial to the outcome of the series. We need to play well in all areas of the game and it would be nice to get the powerplay clicking better. Our team is paying more attention to the little details and that makes the difference in a series like this.
Mike Kennedy

Winger Mike Kennedy is in his third year with the Munich Barons of the DEL. He was among the first players signed when the Barons franchise was established in Munich in June 1999. The Toronto-native missed most of the inaugural year with an ankle injury. He returned in time for the playoffs, though, where he was one of the key players in Munich’s surprising championship run. Mike was drafted 97th overall by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. The 29-year-old made his NHL debut after the Stars’ relocation to Dallas in 1994-95. He tallied 16 goals and 32 assists in 145 NHL games with the Stars, Maple Leafs and Islanders. Mike also appeared in five postseason contests.
