„We definitely want him,” Haie sports director Gerhard Brunner said in the local press..”He’d fit into our system very well.”
Hans Zach, who will assume head coaching duties in Cologne next season, knows Peacock very well. “The Chief”, who is one of the best offensive defenders in the DEL, spent the 1998-99 season with Zach’s Kassel Huskies.
Peacock would not comment on his status, but confirmed negotiations with the Haie.
Although they are still in playoff contention, the Haie have suffered another disappointing season, culminating in the dismissal of long-time general manager and coach Lance Nethery a couple of weeks ago.
Undoubtedly one of the financial powers in the league, the Haie are trying to put together another championship contender for next year.
But other clubs are interested in Peacock, too. Defending champion Mannheim Adler and the Düsseldorfer EG, for which he played in the 1997-98 season, are apparently trying to lure the former league MVP, too.
