Friday’s rout marked the Barons’ highest loss in franchise history. Johan Rosen scored the consolation goal as several Pinguine players registered multi-point nights.
Captain Gary Shuchuk was Krefeld’s leading scorer, tallying a goal and three assists. Gilbert Dionne, who won the Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993, had a goal and two assists. Forward Jeff Christian scored two goals. Forwards Mario Doyon and Patrik Augusta and defenders Darryl Shannon, Dan Lambert and Christian Ehrhoff also had multi-point nights.
Barons captain Simon Wheeldon and winger Mike Kennedy were both ejected in the final two minutes after scuffles.
Munich’s starting netminder Boris Rousson was given a breather after conceding four first-period goals. Backup Christian Künast wasn’t more fortunate, though, allowing four more Krefeld tallies in the final 40 minutes.
„They were very sharp tonight,“ Barons sports director Max Fedra remarked. “They seemed to score on every shot. Trailing 4-0 after twenty minutes, the game was over.“
