Munich, Germany - Two newly signed players turned out to be week one heroes for their respective teams. Ivan Ciernik of the Kölner Haie and Brendan Yarema of the Augsburger Panthers both recorded last-gasp goals to lift their teams to come-from-behind wins on the road. In Frankfurt, 2004-05 league MVP Pat Lebeau opened the season with a five-point night.

With only four seconds remaining in the game, Ivan Ciernik re-directed a slap shot by Stephane Julien past Robert Müller to give the Kölner Haie a 3-2 (0-1, 0-1, 3-0) road win over the Krefeld Pinguine.

Brendan Yarema scored with 12 seconds to lift the Augsburger Panther to an amazing comeback win over ERC Ingolstadt on the road. Trailing 3-1 after 40 minutes, Augsburg scored three unanswered third-period goals to rally for a surprising 4-3 (1-3, 0-0, 3-0) road win. Konstantin Firsanov brought the Panthers within a goal midway through the final stanza, 3-2. With an extra attacker on, Scott King tied up the contest at 3-3 with 53 ticks left. With Ingolstadt in a state of shock, Augsburg kept coming and was rewarded with the lucky game-winner.

Martin Sychra netted the game-winning score as the Kassel Huskies downed expansion team Duisburg Füchse 2-1 (1-0, 0-1, 0-0, 1-0) after penalty shootout.

Petr Fical had a pair of goals and Francois Methot scored three points as the Nürnberg Ice Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 (3-0, 0-0, 1-2) home win over defending DEL champ Berlin Eisbären. Colin Beardsmore's goal at 11:59 of the first went down as the game-winner. All six goals were scored on the man advantage.

Newly signed Daniel Corso and returnee David Gosselin each had a pair of power-play goals as the Frankfurt Lions cruised to a 6-3 (1-1, 3-0, 2-2) home victory over the Iserlohn Roosters. Last year's league MVP Pat Lebeau looked red-hot again, recording five assists on the night.

Robert Hock recorded a hat trick and an assist and Todd Warriner had four assists as the Hannover Scorpions shocked the Hamburg Freezers on the road, 7-3 (1-1, 3-2, 3-0). Hock's second goal of the night, which gave Hanover a 4-3 lead with 38 seconds to go in the middle frame, went down as the game-winner. Hanover's Christian Künast, who replaced starting goalie Trevor Kidd between the pipes after forty minutes, made 12 saves for a third-period shutout. Kidd, who got the win, made 18 saves while allowing three scores.
