The 28-year-old native of Anchorage, Alaska, who agreed to terms with Wolfsburg this past weekend, is expected to make his first start in the German Elite League this Friday when Wolfsburg hosts the Kassel Huskies. Contact was apparently initiated in November when Conklin represented Team USA in the Deutschland Cup at Hanover, a five-nation invitational tournament.
"There's 25 games left," Conklin's agent Kurt Overhardt said in the Edmonton Sun. "He had offers from Finland and Sweden and Austria, but he looked at them all and decided this was the right one for him."
Conklin will form a goalie tandem with Marek Mastic. The 31-year-old Slovak has been handling all the load since backup Mark Seliger, the backbone of Team Germany's Cinderella run at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, got injured
"Conks" played just 39 games for the Oilers in 2003-04 because he missed 11 games with a broken hand suffered in a fight. He recorded 17 wins, 14 losses and 4 ties and a 2.43 goals-against average.
