Plante is now the team’s leading scorer with nine goals and seven assists. His linemates Derek King (3) and Peter Douris (2) also registered multiple-point nights at Berlin.
„We played very solid hockey from the beginning,” Barons sports director Max Fedra remarked. “We dominated the game at any point and even could have beaten them by a higher margin.”
The win marked the Barons’ first-ever road win at the Capitals.
Hapless CapitalsSix minutes into the campaign, Plante’s first goal of the evening gave the Barons an early lead.
Caps coach Gunnar Leidborg decided to take an early time-out to regroup his disoriented team. He couldn’t change the momentum of the game, though, and Munich doubled its lead when Plante struck again on the powerplay with just over three minutes to go in the first.
The Barons never appeared to be in danger of squandering their two-goal lead. With less than nine minutes remaining in regulation, Plante capped the scoring at 3:0 on his third goal of the night.
