The 39-year-old, who also served as director of player personnel, had been under heavy fire from fans and media after a 2-4 start into the 2004-05 campaign. Assistant coach Walter Köberle will serve as interim head coach.
Tuesday's decision ends a three-year stint in Düsseldorf. Details of the agreement between the club and Komma were not released.
Komma led the Metro Stars to the playoffs two times, in 2003 and 2004. They were eliminated in the first round both times.
A former player and head coach for the Berlin Capitals, Komma joined the Metro Stars as director of player personnel in early 2001. The Bad-Tölz-native also assumed head coaching duties in October 2001 when coach Gerhard Brunner stepped down.
Komma was one of only three German head coaches in the German Elite League. Hans Zach, ex-coach of Germany's national team and a close friend of Komma's, is in his third season with the Kölner Haie. Former goaltender Helmut de Raaf is in his first full season with the Mannheim Adler.
