Young scored with 9:41 to go as Frankfurt edged the visiting Hamburg Freezers 2-1 (1-0, 0-1, 1-0) in the only game in the DEL Tuesday night.
The Berlin Eisbären (15-7) and Frankfurt (16-8) are on top of the league with 47 points each. Berlin has the better goal differential (+24) and two games in hand over the Lions (+23). Despite their third straight loss, the Hamburg Freezers (14-9/41pts) stayed in third place, one point ahead of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and Kölner Haie.
Frankfurt took a 1-0 lead with just over two minutes left in the first when Robert Francz deflected a point shot over the left shoulder of Freezers goalie Boris Rousson on the power-play. Hamburg tied the score at 12:47 of the middle frame when blueliner Dan Lambert blasted the puck past Lions netminder Ian Gordon, also on the man advantage.
Lions "a little hungrier"Right after a penalty against the Freezers expired, Young knocked a screened shot past Rousson for the eventual game-winner.
"We were not disciplined", said Rousson. "And we did not create enough offense with our man-advantage situations. Frankfurt were just a little better than us, just a little hungrier maybe."
