Mason is a familiar face in the DEL (Deutsche Eishockey Liga). The Sudbury, Ontario-native head coached the Krefeld Pinguine between 1998 and 2001 and also had a short stint as an assistant with the Kölner Haie.
Mason, who has been out of hockey for a year, signed a one-year deal. He last worked as a head coach for EV Zug of the Swiss league in 2001-02.
Fellow Canadian Teal Fowler, a long-time assistant coach in the Roosters organisation who served as an interim head coach for two games, will return to his usual role.
Dave Whistle, a three-time championship coach in the British Superleague, was fired by the Roosters last Saturday, only nine games into the season.
