After being swept in four regular season games in last year’s inaugural season, the 2nd-year Freezers recorded their first-ever win against Nuremberg. Hamburg got scores from Mark Greig, Brad Purdie and Fearns in the shootout decision, while only Martin Jiranek and Petr Fical managed to tally for Nuremberg.
In a very mediocre game, it was the two netminders that stood out. With the game scoreless after 60 minutes of regulation, Hamburg’s Boris Rousson and Nuremberg’s second-stringer Alfie Michaud each recorded their first shutouts of the season.
A wide-open Michael Rumrich could have given the visiting Tigers the lead late in the opening period when he found himself alone in front of the Freezers net but lifted the puck just over the crossbar. Hamburg’s Andrew Schneider and Nuremberg’s Greg Leeb both wasted good scoring opportunities early in the third.
