prohockey.de: Coach, after squandering a 2-0 series lead, your guys had their backs to the wall, trailing 1-0 after two periods tonight. But they put on a big rally and clinched the championship with three third-period scores.
Butch Goring: It was an unbelievable game. We saw two really, really, good hockey teams tonight. We had a little bit of luck here and there, but we really worked hard.
prohockey.de: Your team seemed to be unstoppable after the first two games of the best-of-five series. But the Kölner Haie came back, tied the series and seemed to have all the momentum going their way coming into Game 5. How did you approach the final game of the season?
Butch Goring: It was tough to lose at home the other day. But we came in here and said: You know what, we’re gonna play our best and see what happens. We gotta give our guys a lot of credit to come back here and play the kind of hockey game they played. It’s unbelievable, a huge victory. Everybody’s excited.
prohockey.de: You were part of many championship teams as a player and as a coach. Was this just another championship run for you or a different experience?
Butch Goring: Some of the championships I was involved in, we had the best team and were expected to win. But the Krefeld Pinguine weren’t expected to win. We almost didn’t get into the playoffs and each and every round, everybody kept saying: As long as you make a good showing, everybody would be happy. We kept making a better showing. To win as an underdog certainly has a special meaning for me.
prohockey.de: Are you going to stay in Krefeld?
Butch Goring: I’m staying. You can’t get rid of me now.
