Former NHLer Dominic Roussel got his first shutout of the season as Frankfurt blanked the Krefeld Pinguine 2-0 (1-0, 0-0, 1-0) at home Tuesday night. Paul Stanton’s powerplay goal got the Lions on the scoreboard midway through the opening period. Rob Busch capped the scoring 3:15 into the final session. Odd fact: Frankfurt has won three games in a row after sacking sports director Bernie Johnston last week.
Two shorthanded scores made the difference as the Hamburg Freezers prevailed over ERC Ingolstadt, 3-1 (1-0, 1-0, 1-1). Down by two(!) men, captain Andy Schneider put the home team ahead 1-0 late in the first period. After a second-period powerplay goal from defenseman Jeff Tory, Ted Drury came up with the second short-hander of the night, extending Hamburg’s lead to 3-0 midway through the final period. Ingolstadt’s Jean-Francois Jomphe denied Boris Rousson’s shutout bid with under six minutes to go.
